A note from our Section Manager

Hello Everyone,

With the ARRL’s bulk internet server still inoperative I am using our Zoom meeting roster to convey some important information to you and to share some thoughts regarding the current situation and the potential for more of the same. I encourage you to share this information, or at least the link enclosed to others.

In the world we live in today, I believe that we will see these types of events continue and possibly increase in the future. I certainly hope I’m wrong, but…

One of my increasing concerns is the attitude I’m seeing expressed by folks in EmComm, the media and the general public. Many of these folks are passing this off as a “oh, well, it was a software update problem and it’s now fixed”. Okay, that may be so, but what was the cost of the disruption? Even in Midland, Texas one or maybe more of the banks were out of service for a while. What about hospitals? Let’s hope they have good backup systems…

We, as a society, have become way too complacent and accepting of the cause and solution to many situations. If it doesn’t affect us directly, it’s okay.

Enclosed is a link to a video prepared today by Jason Oldham, KM4ACK. Jason does many preparedness videos and makes some very timely and important suggestions for us all to follow. Go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKRttZdR2rk

David and I will be resuming our weekly Zoom meetings in September. We look forward to seeing you all then.
